The music industry drastically changes almost on a daily basis. One thing that I always respect is an artist that takes every aspect of the music business to heart and puts a 100% effort into how they are perceived. Whether it be by fans or industry profession….they flat out give the people what they deserve. One of those artists is Jason Lee McKinney.
McKinney, who is a native of Indiana, grew up across from a cornfield and is the son of a rugby player, which he jokes is a little bit of an odd thing. Jason is married with four kids and resides in Nashville, TN. Even though touring can cause some challenges as far as furthering your education, he has been going to school while on the road and actually holds a Doctorate in Management. When Jason was growing up, his Father was really into country music so he was listening to artists like Willie, Waylon, Delbert McClinton, Hank Williams Sr. His Mom was into Motown, so he was also listening to the Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire as well as Hall and Oates. His older brother, however, was into AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. Jason says he has taken all those influences and rolled them into one, which can be heard in his music.
Jason actually decided to pursue music after seeing the movie Purple Rain. His Dad took him to see the movie as a young kid. He states that at the end of the movie, where Prince sings Purple Rain, that was the moment when he decided to go towards music. How that song made people feel was exactly how he wanted to make others feel.
